Local angler
reels in rare catch - blue marlin
Jim Currier 26.MAY.05 A local fishing captain has some major
bragging rights after his recent catch of a 130-pound blue
marlin on the
Atlantic Ocean. The blue marlin is one of the rarest catches in
Georgia.
Captain Tim Gaylor with Miss Judy Charters
reeled in the rare catch May 17 on a chartered trip eight
miles east of the southledge.
Gaylor said that only
five blue marlins are caught a year in this area
and because it is a protected species, he had to release the
fish.
We were tired of catching little fish so we
caught something big, said Gaylor. It paid off
big.
He said that his clients that day always bring
luck. Last year, the group caught a 90-pound Wahoo and this
year a blue marlin.
